"Sam, work more, talk less," says Brent Mason, a fourth grade math teacher at Clinton Intermediate school. Sam Morrow, 11, has ADHD and gets excited between classes.

"I tell him to put his stuff away, and he doesn't do it. I'm not going to do it for him," says Charity. Sam eats his breakfast at the kitchen counter every morning.
Sam and his mother Charity Morrow, 33, share a moment before picking up the rest of the elementary schoolers. Charity brings Sam on her route to all of the area schools. "I don't have to pay for day care. Nobody's raising my kids but me," she says.
Angie Voelmec's homeroom class picks the spelling words for next week. Most of the kids had the list, but Sam forgot to write them down.
Sam's favorite class is math. He got an A in the class last term, and wants to go to MIT to learn to build robots. He also correctly answered "C: five pennies."

In Phyllis Lucas's music class Sam and his classmates are learning musical notation.

After recess, while others start their worksheets, Sam is having a hard time transitioning back into class.

Sam and his friend Jacob Morical, 11, play in the dried out creek by Sam’s house. Sam and Jacob play with a stick and dig holes. “We always have something in the cave,” says Jacob. In the hole the two boys stored a rock, spider webs, walnuts and a pocketknife.

This is the third night Jacob and Sam had a sleepover. It is 10 pm and Charity has been up since 5 in the morning. Sam and Jacob are still talking but are finally in their beds. "You can't fall asleep with your mouth and your eyes open," she says to the two boys.
As his ADHD medication wears off, Sam has to put in effort to fall asleep.
